So often the ordinary moments of my life get swallowed up in the longing for something more,
something more interesting,
more glamorous,
more exciting and adventurous.
But, I'm learning, little by little, moment by moment, as I move through life,
to let go of that longing,
to accept the "as is" of my life,
giving in to the ordinary,
accepting it as enough,
believing my ordinary life holds interest all its own.
I'm starting to savor the mundane moments,
emphasize the mediocre happenings,
letting ordinary scents infuse my world,
listening carefully for the ordinary sounds that surround my place of being,
giving power to familiar textures and tastes,
finding beauty and grace in this ordinary existence.
Embracing my oh so ordinary life,
I'm trusting that this is full and complete,
this right here and now - just as it is,
trusting that this ordinariness,
my repetitive ways of doing and being,
are adventures in and of themselves.
I'm choosing to redefine glamorous to better suit my way of life
so that all my actions,
my waking, my working, my playing,
my loving, my relaxing, my expressing,
my laughing, my grieving, my sleeping,
will be enough.
May the ordinary be extraordinary.

i wanted to say that
i loved what you wrote

i love them,
i really love them...
and i am so not a shoe person...
you write deep
and i wax poetical
or idiotically
about your shoes...
(slapping head repeatedly)

I know what you mean--trusting that the ordinary being and doing is enough. It's hard sometimes, isn't it? But, the funny thing is--in writing it, you've made it more than enough--it's become something for others to mull over and ponder. A small gift.

Also, love the pic of you & your son on the potty!

Right on. I redefined "glamour" for myself a few years back as being comfortable in my own skin. Knowing that I'm enough just as I am. Love this......Keep being GLAMOROUS!!!

I meant to post to you yesterday but forgot.
I loved this post, it's everything I wish I could embrace in my life and there's a huge part of me that's thankful there are other people who feel the same.
Beautifully written as always.

If you consider the fact that we are, at this very moment, tiny little creatures, scrambling about on the surface of a tiny little planet, that is spinning on its own axis at the speed of 1000 mile per hour whilst hurtling through space at the speed of around 66 000 miles per hour, a space that as far as we know go on "forever" in every conscievable direction, and as far as we know we are the only human beings on any planet anywhere, there is absolutely nothing ordinary about any of us.

"Save the Earth! It's the only planet with chocolate on it."
