SPT7

Remember when you were a little girl

and you'd put on a new skirt or a favorite dress

then twirl and twirl and twirl

watching the colors and patterns rise softly around you

until you couldn't see straight from the dizziness of it all

and you'd collapse in a giggling heap on the floor

I miss that...

These pictures capture this feeling beautifully! I remember this well. Though I also remember my kindergarten teacher pulling me aside to explain that the reason the boys always wanted me to twirl in this one velvet skirt I had was because they could see my underwear. I still twirled at home. I appreciate the reminder to try it again almost 25 years later.

Great post. Know what I miss? Hula-hooping...so much so, that I recently bought one. (It came to mind, what with all the twirling.) :)

A young woman once said to me "It's not fair! If you act silly people say "Oh isn't it wonderful how youthful she is", but if I act silly people just tell me to stop being so childish." Well, there has to some perks to growing older hasn't there? Besides, twirling is a skill that takes years to perfect, what would be the point if you had to stop just because you turn 12, the dervishes do it as a means to touch the devine...

I love, love, love this - I bought myself a new skirt from Next a couple of weeks ago - and it was circular, and whenever I'm alone I have a quick twirl and remember the wonderful twirly pink flowery dress my aunt made for me when I was 7.

This brought tears to my eyes...I dance all the time just because and when no one is looking.

You've given me an excellent reason to find a big twirly skirt in my size and let them wave about me like those beautiful traditional Spanish dresses...:) Lovely blog.
